Mr. Thomas Newton Beckett Jr., age 63, of Monett, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at Cox South Springfield, Mo. He was born on Dec. 16, 1946 in Fayetteville, Ark. to Thomas and Bonnie (Fortner) Beckett Sr. Tom was united in marriage with Chiqueta Hensley on May 13, 1966.
Tom worked as a funeral director for Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett since 1998. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monett, as well as, the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Jaycees, Monett Athletic Boosters, American Legion and the Gideon's.
Tom was a very special friend, uncle, brother, father, grandfather and husband. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Tom is survived by his wife, Chiqueta, along with one daughter: Angela, and her husband, Aaron Johnson; two grandchildren: Cameron and Kaia Johnson; three brothers: Charles and wife, Lovenia Beckett, of Blue Eye, Ark., David and wife, Donna Beckett, of Monett and Jimmy and wife, Alice Beckett, of Springfield; three sisters: Wanda and husband, Wayne Ogle, of Monett, Carolyn and husband, Richard Waltrip, of Aurora and Sharon Gilliam, of South Carolina.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents in 2007.
Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Mo. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Monett at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 with Dr. Bill Cox and Rev. Clif Crokett officiating. Burial will follow at Monett IOOF Cemetery.
