Bi-county schools will honor veterans during special events

Area veterans will have the opportunity to be honored for their service at several Veterans Day events that are being planned throughout the Barry and Lawrence County area next week.

Central Park Elementary School will host a "Celebration of Veterans" at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in the Monett Middle School gym.

The assembly and program will feature special seating for veterans, and veterans who plan to attend are asked to dress in uniform. The celebration is open to the public.

Purdy High School's Aubrey Keeling Chapter of the National Honor Society will be honoring local veterans at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 during the high school's annual Veterans Day Assembly.

A reception for veterans and current military service personnel will be held in the high school family and consumer sciences classroom immediately after the assembly.

NHS members are currently collecting photographs of veterans or those currently serving in the military for the Veterans Day Assembly slideshow. Submissions must be made by Wednesday, Nov. 9 for inclusion in the slide show. Anyone with photos can contact Purdy High School.

The Pierce City Student Council will host a Veterans Day assembly at 1:45 p.m. at the high school. A lunch will be held for veterans at 1 p.m. All veterans are invited to attend both the lunch and the assembly. Those wishing to attend the lunch should call 417-476-2515 to make a reservation.

Verona High School's will host a special Veterans Day assembly at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 in the high school gymnasium. Students from the Southwest Area Career Center JROTC program will conduct the ceremony. Verona students and faculty invite all area veterans to attend the event that is planned in their honor.

Wheaton High School will be hosting a Veterans Day dinner on Thursday, Nov. 11 in the Wheaton High School Family and Consumer Sciences classroom. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. followed by presentations to honor veterans. All area veterans are invited.
