The season for the Verona Lady Wildcats volleyball concluded Tuesday night as they fell 25-21, 25-19 to the eventual District 7 champion Miller Lady Cardinals.
"It's always disheartening when your season comes to an end," said Verona Head Coach Brad Stewart. "Miller was the better team tonight. Our girls played hard and just came up short."
Although this season has come to a conclusion the Lady Wildcats have several bright spots.
"We finished 22-8-2," said Stewart. "Most teams would be thrilled with that record. We have seven of our nine starters returning, and we still have room to improve."
In the semi-final game, Jessica Smith who had eight kills and 26 digs led Verona. Tristan Carrasquillo added eight kills, eight digs and one block. Jenna Chadd contributed 15 assists, two kills and 10 digs.
The Lady Wildcats were also supported by: Taylor Pinkly's 18 digs and one kills; Shelby Barsotti four assists; Amanda Mullen two kills; Lynnsey Youngberg six digs; and Kelsei Krueger with 100 percent serve accuracy.
The Verona Lady Wildcats advanced to the District 7 semi-finals after defeating Galena 25-6, 25-18 on Monday night.
"I thought our effort was good all night," said Stewart. "We played consistently and as a team. It's always hard to beat the same team twice in the same season, let alone three times."
Leading the charge statistically for Verona was Smith with nine kills. Chadd added 14 assists and two aces. Carrasquillo contributed four kills and two blocks. Mullen had three blocks. Pinkly added 10 digs while Krueger served up two aces
