The Monett High School cross country team had an excellent showing at the Big 8 Conference meet Tuesday night at South Park.
Monett's Chris Renteria and Hannah Martin each placed first in their respective divisions. The Cubs placed second in the boys team standing, while the Lady Cubs finished third.
Renteria completed the 5K (3.1 mile) course in 17:44.9. East Newton's Brent Sherwood was second with a time of 17:48.2. Seneca's Austin Jorgenson finished third and recorded a time of 17:53.10. East Newton's Jared Hopkins was fourth, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:56.2. Monett's Isaac Weber completed the top five with a time of 18:06.4.
Monett was aided by strong performances: Juan Renteria, seventh; Bill Townsend, ninth; Michael Morley, 16th; Jonah Ragsdale, 24th; Caleb Blue, 29th; and Daniel Bryan, 42nd.
In the boys division, East Newton was first, Monett, second, Lamar, third, Seneca, fourth, and Carl Junction, fifth.
In the girls division, Martin earned gold with a time of 21:45.5. Monett's Madeleine Weber was second with a time of 22:23.7. Carl Junction's Emily Keeter finished third, posting a 22:27.4. Cassville's Deborah Kern and Jessica Barrientos finished fourth and fifth with times of 22:34.71 and 22:22:41.0 respectively.
Other Lady Cubsfinishers were: Sophie Fulton, 14th; Gina Meier, 21st; and Lupe Renteria, 23rd.
In the girls division, Cassville was first, Carl Junction, second, Monett, third, and Lamar, fourth.
Monett's cross country team will compete in the sectional meet in Bolivar Oct. 30.
