Let the Golden Age Games begin
Plans are being completed for the 15th annual Golden Age Games.
Monett competitions will be held at the Monett High School from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. Games will also be held at Mountain Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 26. The Bolivar games were held on Oct. 15. Participation has increased from 13 facilities last year to 17 this year. Approximately 400 participants will compete.
The Golden Age Games are open to all residents of Missouri Healthcare Association member facilitie.
The Monett games will be hosted by Lacoba Homes. Participants will compete in the day-long event in contests such as horseshoe toss, basketball toss, soccer kick, bingo, quiz bowl, craft competition, wheel chair races, cow milking and hog calling contests.
The games give the residents who are participating the opportunity to become part of a team striving toward a common goal. Many residents return year after year to compete in the games and begin preparing for the events months in advance.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded for first through fifth place winners in each category. Each resident will receive a certificate for his or her participation in the games, and each facility will receive a team participation plaque.
In addition, the traveling Spirit Cup will be presented to the facility that displays the most team spirit during the competition. First, second and third place high team score plaques will be awarded.
This years' participants include: Lacoba Homes; Benchmark Healthcare; Aurora Nursing Center; Barry County Care Center; Lawrence County Manor; Carthage Health and Rehab; Christian Health Care; of Republic; Golden Living Center; Joplin Health and Rehab; The Meadow Care Center; Medical Lodge, of Neosho; Truman Health Care of Lamar; Webb City Health and Rehab; Sarcoxie Nursing Center; Hudson House; Brook Haven and Granby House.
