Springfield Livestock Marketing Center: Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/20/2010

   Compared to last week; feeder steers, heifers, and Holstein steers all 
sold mostly steady.  There was some firmness noted on calves under 500 lbs 
and yearlings over 700 lbs, but also spots of weakness evident on middle-
weight feeders from 500-700 lbs.  Demand was fairly good throughout and 
noticeably better for the Wean-Vac portion of the sale, which made up a 
smaller percentage of receipts than normal.  Fed cattle traded 4.00-5.00 
higher in the Western feedlots on Wednesday from 101.00-102.00, but corn was 
nearly up the limit.  Supplies included 41 percent steers, 33 percent 
heifers, 14 percent feeder bulls, and only 12 percent Holsteins.  Around 33 
percent of the cattle weighed over 600 lbs.
