The Barry-Lawrence Area United Fund will begin its 2010-11 drive next week. Ken Dudzik, United Fund president, said the campaign will raise funds for a wide range of charitable services and projects benefitting children in Monett and nearby communities whose families work in Monett.

"The support of many companies and individuals who participate in the annual drive is much appreciated by the receiving organizations," said Dudzik.

The total amount provided to 20 organizations supported by the Barry-Lawrence Area United Fund last year was $48,000. Only 1 percent of the money donated was used for administrative costs, Dudzik said.

The United Fund organization is made up of 10 volunteer board members who participate in the fund drive. The board reviews requests submitted by participating organizations.

Interested individuals may contribute to the United Fund by making checks payable to the Barry-Lawrence Area United Fund and mailing them to United Fund, Lisa Balmas-UMB Bank, 500 E. Broadway, Monett, MO. 65708.

Among the organizations benefitting from charitable giving through the United Fund last year were the 10 Barry and Lawrence County Head Start facilities, the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, the Barry-Lawrence County Crime Stoppers, Mighty Mite Football, Linn Thorton's Christmas efforts, the Barry-Lawrence County Development Center, Youth Baseball/Softball, the Pregnancy Care Center and the Monett Area YMCA.
