Timing is everything, and the Verona Lady Wildcats volleyball team (16-6-2) is starting to hit their stride.
This week Verona picked up two more wins, defeating Greenfield 25-22, 20-25 and 25-7 Monday night, then handling Billings 25-17, 25-21 Tuesday.
"I think we are coming together as a team," said Verona Coach Brad Stewart. "Our girls are playing together and fulfilling their roles on the team. Things are really clicking."
In the Billings match, Jessica Smith's eight kills, two aces and nine digs led Verona statistically. Jenna Chadd added 16 assists and 15 digs. Tristan Carrasquillo contributed seven kills and two blocks.
The Lady Wildcats were also supported by: Amanda Mullen, five kills and two blocks; Taylor Pinkly, 11 digs and four kills; Lynnsey Youngberg, six digs; Jordyn Butler, two assists; Shelby Barsotti, two assists; and Kelsey Krueger one assist.
"Every point becomes crucial at this point in the season," said Stewart. "A team has to have girls capable of hitting the ball hard to score the point. I think we are showing that we can do just that."
In the win over Greenfield, Smith's 12 kills and five digs, led the Lady Wildcats. Carrasquillo added eight kills and three blocks. Chadd had 13 assists and six digs.
Verona was also anchored by: Mullen, four kills and two blocks; Pinkly, 11 digs, one kill; Youngberg, seven digs; Barsotti, 11 assists; Butler, one kill and four digs; and Krueger, with a 100 percent serve accuracy.
Verona will be in action in the Golden City Tournament starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
