Monett cross country picking up the pace

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

The Monett boys placed second overall in the Cassville Invitational on Monday. Monett's Chris Renteria finished third, Isaac Weber, seventh, Juan Renteria, 10th, Bill Townsend, 12th, Michael Morley, 15th, and Jonah Ragsdale, 25th.

The Monett Girls placed third. Hannah Martin was the meet's gold medalist. Other top finishers were Madeleine Weber, second, and Sophie Fulton, 15th.

JV runners Aaron Morely and Daniel Bryan placed fourth and sixth respectively.

"Both our girls and boys teams are doing excellent this year," said Monett Head Coach Melanie Mayberry. "We have seen a steady decrease in our times from meet to meet. A lot of our athletes are going from meet to meet setting personal records for themselves."

Lamar meet win

The Monett Cubs and Lady Cubs cross country teams finished first and second place respectively in the Lamar Invitational.

The Monett boys finished first and were two points better than second place East Newton.

Individually, in the boys division Chris Renteria was first overall, followed by Weber, fifth, Juan Renteria, ninth, Townsend, 16th, Morley, 20th, Blue, 31st, and Ragsdale, 38th.

The Lady Cubs team tied for second and was out of first place by one point. Martin finished third individually. Weber was seventh, Fulton, 17th, Lupe Renteria, 28th, and Gina Meier, 29th.

"This meet had all of the Big 8 schools," said Mayberry. "It was kind of a foreshadowing of possibilities for the Oct. 23 conference meet. Chris (Renteria) and Issac (Weber) are in the top 50 in Class 3," Mayberry added. "Hannah (Martin) is 33rd. As a team, we are doing pretty awesome."

Monett cross country will host the Big 8 conference meet on Oct. 23.

Individual times were not available at press time.
