Information sought in area attack

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Barry-Lawrence Crime Stoppers and the Barry County Sheriff's Department are seeking information on a home invasion in Wheaton that occurred on Oct. 4.

According to law enforcement reports, the incident occurred at a residence located one mile north of Wheaton off of Highway 86 at around 3 p.m. in the afternoon.

The victim reported that he was asleep when he was woken up by a knock at the door, which he ignored. Moments later, the victim said he heard his dogs barking and went to check on them and found a subject kneeling down by his TV.

At that point, the victim got into a victim with the home invader, who is described as 6' and 180 pounds and wearing a camouflage face mask and gloves.

The victim said he had the suspect pinned to the floor and was hitting him in the face when another suspect hit him over the head with a blunt object. The victim then chased the intruders out the back door where another suspect hit the victim in the head with a hammer.

The suspects left the home driving a black truck of unknown make and model. They headed north toward Fairview.

Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspects in felony crimes. Anyone with information about the incident in Wheaton is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-635-8477 (TIPS) or 354-TIPS.

THESE HOME INVASIONS ARE BECOMING MORE & MORE FREQUENT LOCALLY & NATIONALLY.I MYSELF USED TO LIVE A MILE FROM THIS INCIDENT NEAR WHEATON.PEOPLE NEED TO BE TOLD WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN A BURGLURY & INVASIONS.BURGLURY IS A BREAK IN OR UNLAWFUL ENTERY WHEN RESIDENTS ARE NOT HOME OR AT NIGHT WHILE THEY SLEEP.INVASIONS ARE BROAD DAYLIGHT WHILE RESIDENTS ARE HOME & THE INVADERS KNOW THEY ARE HOME.THE THEORY BEING IT IS SAFEER(FOR THE INVADERS) TO GO IN A HOME IN BROAD DAYLIGHT & TAKE CONTROL OVER THE HOUSE WITH MINAMAL RESITANCE.PEOPLE ARE NOT THINKING HOME DEFENCE DURING THE DAY LIKE AT NIGHT,DOORS UNLOCKED,WINDOWS ETC,SO THEY COME IN AND ARE ON TOP OF U BEFORE U CAN MOVE.THE ANSWER IS 1ST ALWAYS KEEP DOORS LOCKED,EVEN DURING THE DAY.2ND IS THE 2ND ADMENDMENT,FORGET WHAT LAW ENFORCEMENT SAYS & ALWAYS KEEP A LOADED FIREARM WITHIN ARMS REACH & ONLY THEN WILL U BE READY TO DEFEND YOUR HOME & FAMILY.IT IS SAD THINGS HAVE COME TO THIS...BUT THEY HAVE..IT'S TIME TO CHANGE OUR THINKING!FORGIVE THE SPELLING...GOD BLESS.
