"We had 38 bikes and around 83 people attending," said Gary Updike, who organizes the event with his wife, Sue. "We raised $850 that was given to Linn Thornton."
Thornton has been distributing toys to less fortunate children for Christmas across the Monett area since 1978. He works with Crosslines, the Monett Jaycees and other groups donating toys and funds to bring Christmas joy to children who otherwise might not be able to have a holiday celebration.
"The Toy Run was just great," Thornton said. "We got a van load of toys. We loaded it all up and took it to the warehouse on Sunday. I just want to thank Gary and Sue and all the people at the church who put it on. It worked out as smooth as could be."
This year's Toy Run offered a little variety for the bikers. Ken and Ginger Zielinski planned the route, which took riders from the Church of the Nazarene in Monett to Purdy, through McDowell and Butterfield and then back to Monett.
The following organizations and individuals helped support the Toy Run: Church of the Nazerene; Jack Henry and Associates; Requa Ink; Michael Barkhoff; Walmart; Ramey Price Cutter; Denney's Harley Davidson; Safe Racer.com; Coast to Coast; Typhoon Island Car Wash; Auto Zone; NAPA Auto Parts; Grant's Restaurant; Braum's; Doug's Pro Lube; Mocha Jo's; Denali Dreams; The Bayou; Richard's Hawg Wild BBQ; The BBQ Station; The Undercliff Grill; Fulp Dry Cleaners; Gear Head Grill; Heart and Home Tea Room; C&S Cycles; Bootleggers Restaurant; Race Brothers; Marionville Powersports; Sane Mule; Redshaw Auto Supply; Family Video; Cycle Connection; Katie Cuendet; Nona Dalke; Darlene and Carol Murphy; Monett Police Department; Barry County Sheriff's Department; The Monett Times; Vietnam Veterans of America Barry County Chapter; and Nicky Fhalsing.
