Gerald A. Lillegard, age 85, of Monett, MO, passed away on Tuesday evening, October 5, 2010, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, MO. Gerald was born on March 27, 1925 in Cylinder, Iowa, the son of the late Herbert E. and Nellie Coral (Hudson) Lillegard.
Gerald worked for M. E. Gillioz Construction for many years and later owned and operated L and L Welding Supply in Monett. He served in the Navy and was a World War II veteran.He enjoyed playing his guitar, woodworking, working with stained glass, helping others around town with small projects. His latest accomplishment was restoring a 1943 John Deere.
Gerald married Betty Deanna Pettitt on May 7, 1948 in Ozark, MO and she preceded him in death on June 18, 2007.
Gerald is survived by two sons, Rick Lillegard and wife Carol, of Poultney, VT and Steve Lillegard and wife Lynn, of Houston, TX; one daughter, Janet Bazdarich and husband Sam, of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Justin and Andrew Bazdarich and Matt, Meghan and Colby Lillegard; one brother, Floyd Lillegard and wife Polly, of Monett; two sisters, Elva Smith, of Springfield, MO and Lucy Jean Highfill, of Buffalo, MO; and one sister-in-law, Bobbie Lillegard, of Monett. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother, Virgil Lillegard.
Graveside services for Mr. Lillegard will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett with Reverend Clif Crockett officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. In memory of Gerald, contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
