This week has been very nice to the Monett Lady Cubs volleyball team. Monett remained perfect in Big 8 conference play (13-10 overall, 3-0 in the Big 8) by defeating Seneca 25-16, 25-18 Tuesday night and besting Aurora 25-15, 25-15 on Monday.
"The girls are getting better with each match," said Monett Lady Cubs Coach Shyrah Perry. "Volleyball is a game of emotional highs and lows. The teams that can steady their nerves and play through adversity are the ones who have success."
Just 12 days ago the Lady Cubs had a sub-500 record and were looking for something to help them get on track.
"I told the girls that they needed to believe they could win, not just say that they could," Perry said. "Our practices started getting better. The intensity picked up, and we started to winning."
|On Sept. 25, Monett claimed second place in the Strafford Tournament.||The Lady Cubs have since reeled off wins against East Newton, Aurora and Seneca.||The 13 wins by this year's squad has already surpassed the win total from last years team, which finished 12-21-1.|
Against Seneca, Monett's Madison Carlin had 10 assists and five kills. Elise Meyer added four aces. Hunter Glouse contributed 10 kills. Maddie Schmidt and Amanda McKinney had 12 digs each. Mackenzie Lay added two blocks, and Jenny Frazier had three aces.
"Seneca is a scrappy and well disciplined team," added Perry. "We were able to respond from our errors and score more points."
In the match against Aurora, Glouse had 11 kills, Meyer seven kills, McKinney 16 digs and Schmidt 12 assists.
|"The girls realized that when they play well they can beat anyone," Perry said. "The Aurora win helped show the girls that principle."|
The Monett Lady Cubs will host the Aurora Lady Houn' Dawgs this coming Thursday night.
