Monett falls to Central

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

The Monett Cubs soccer team fell 3-0 to the Central Bulldogs Monday night.

For 78 minutes of the game the Cubs were within one goal and had numerous opportunities to tie the score.

"We gave up two late goals (both in the 79th minute)," said Assistant Coach Dan Janssen. "We were trying to be more aggressive on the offensive end, and they scored two quick times."

The game marked the sixth time in the last six days the Cubs had played a match.

"I am extremely proud of how our boys played tonight," said Janssen. "I know that we had some tired legs out there, but the boys kept battling."

Monett's goalie Freddy Lopez had 16 saves during the game.

"Lopez played great," Janssen added. "We had our opportunities to tie the game. We couldn't find the back of the net."

The Cubs will host Thomas Jefferson this Thursday.
