For five Monett Lady Cubs softball players Tuesday night's 14-0 win over Wheaton marked the last time they set foot on their home field during the regular season.
"These girls have been wonderful," said Monett Head Coach Ty Goetz. "They have provided leadership for the younger players, and they are just fun to be around. The seniors played a big role in helping us get this win tonight."
|Monett wasted no time in putting the Lady Bulldogs in an early hole. The Lady Cubs plated four runs in the first, one in the second, four in the third and five in the fourth.|
"Our girls swung the bats really well tonight," Goetz said. "We hope to use this momentum to catapult through district play."
Monett's Paige Marney got the win. She pitched five innings, allowed one hit and struck out four.
Logan Swope went three for three with a double and two runs scored. Marney went two for three with three RBIs. Avery Bounous went two for three with a triple and two runs scored. Katie Upchurch went one for two with two walks and a run scored.
The Lady Cubs will be in district play-off action this Thursday at 6 p.m. They play the winner of Wednesday's Seneca-Aurora game.
