The Verona Lady Wildcats volleyball team (13-6-2 overall, 4-0 in Ozarks 7) defeated McAuley 25-21, 25-21 Thursday night.
"It was a good game for us," said Verona Head Coach Brad Stewart. "We trailed by 6 points early in each set but kept our poise and fought back."
The Lady Wildcats were led by Tristan Carrasquillo's 12 kills, four blocks and three digs. Jessica Smith added six kills, four aces and nine digs. Jenna Chadd contributed four kills, 10 assists, two digs and one ace.
Verona was also helped by Taylor Pinkly's eight digs, Lynnsey Youngberg's two kills and four digs, Jordyn Butler's seven assists and one dig and Amanda Mullen's one kill and one block. The Lady Wildcats served at ninety eight percent as a team.
Coach Stewart is pleased that his team is starting to play its best volleyball at the right time of the year.
"The girls are stepping up and playing big when it matters most," Stewart said. "Kelsei Krueger continues to be a weapon for us with her serve. Our defense has improved. We are not as good as we have the potential to be. However, each day we are getting closer to that goal."
The Lady Wildcats will be in action next Tuesday at Everton.
