B-L Library Board gets clean audit

The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library board met Sept. 18, with Pat Weber, CPA Group, presenting the 2009-2010 audit report.

According to Weber, there were no problems found with financial issues for the library. Tax revenues were down, Weber reported, but the library district held expenses in check.

Director jean Berg reported thaat $5,411 had been received in E-rate reimbursements for 2009-2010, along with $4,500 from the Missouri Humanities Council, a grant that funded Ronald radford, a flamenco guitarist during the summer reading program in June.

The summer reading program ended in July. with Berg reporting 951 children registered for summer reading and a 54 percent completion rate. A total of 160 teens had signed up for the summer reading program, with ony 38 percent completing their goals.

Berg reported that five of the district's branches held adult summer reading programs with weekly prizes awarded.

It was announced that the Shell Knob had received a donation in the amount of $5,000 from the Dorothy B. Tudor estate. A portion of those funds, $2,800, has been designated for the purchase of an early learning computer station that is pre-loaded with a variety of educational software.

A grant from the Table Rock Lake Community Foundation in the amount of $2,500 has been received toward the 2011 match for the Gates Foundation Grant.

FTE Electric submitted a bid in the amount of $797 to install a 250 watt water heater light and fan, as well as adding receptacles at the Shell Knob branch. The amount is $497 over the proposed budgeted amount.

replacement of the awning at Shell Knob is also slated for the 2011 fiscal year, and Berg has requested $2,500 to cover the costs or the electrical work and awning.

In other business, Berg reported damage done to the ouside book drop recepticle at Cassville. According to Berg, the box was apparently hit by a vehicle causing the bolts to break and knocking it off the sidewalk. the box has been remounted and a police report filed on the incident.

Finally, board members ratified a phone poll concerning a proposal from Heller Heat and Air in Aurora for replacement of an outside condenser unit and blower motor for the Mt. Vernon branch in the amount of $3,216.

The next meeting of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library board will be Oct. 14 at the Monett branch.
