Monett Speedway season ends

The Monett Speedway ended its regular season on Sunday with the Race Brothers Farm and Home Supply Show Me Racing Series. A full slate of races gave fans a busy night.

The Rookie division had five racers in both the preliminary heat and the feature race. Clayton Powell won both dashes for the checkered flag. Frank James bounced from last in the heat to first in the feature, bumping down Wyatt Bunch, Tim Murphy and John Beard, who finished in order in both races.

Four racers participated in both the heat and feature in the Bombers division. Nick Whitehead finished second to Rusty Forrest in the heat but reversed positions in the feature. Marcus Chaeney moved up one slot to take third in the feature, knocking Garrett Essary to last.

Two heats of racers ran for a shot at the Legends division feature. Dave Comer won both his heat and the feature, right ahead of Park Jones in both races. Chuck Comer was last in his heat but claimed third in the feature. Colt Pruente finished in fourth, down two slots from his heat. Brian Boucher finished in fifth in the 13-man field.

The Factory Stock divsion had two heats and eight racers in the feature. Scotty Allen took first in both the feature and the preliminary race. Sundance Keeper, the other heat winner, claimed second. Chris Hawkins took third in two races. John Coats and Bill Scharr finished back-to-back in two races to round out the top five.

Four heats and a B feature were needed to position drivers for the Late Models division. In the feature race, Ken Essary held on to his first place heat finish to claim the feature. Dave Ware, who won the second heat, took second. Rex Merritt, who won the fourth heat, took third. Randy Zimmerman, who won the B feature, took fourth in advancing to the feature race. Chuck Comer, a third place heat winner, took fifth.
