Softball is a game of momentum and lucky breaks. Tuesday night the Monett Lady Cubs (12-7) had a tough time getting either one as they fell 10-1 to McDonald County.
"It was a rough night," said Monett Head Coach Ty Goetz. "Credit McDonald County for putting the ball in play and taking advantage of its scoring opportunities. The Lady Mustangs forced us to make plays to get them out. We just didn't get the job done. They (McDonald County) played aggressive and earned this win."
|The Lady Mustangs would score a run in the first inning, six in the second and three runs in the fourth. Monett's lone run came in the third inning. Katie Upchurch singled with one out. She moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Andrea Soriano's double.|
The Lady Cubs missed a golden opportunity in the bottom of the second. They had the bases loaded with no outs. However, a pop up and a double play ended the threat.
Paige Marney took the loss. She pitched seven innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Raigan Ragland went two for four with two singles for the Lady Cubs. Marney was one for four with a double and Soriano went two for three with a double and triple.
"I thought we played a little sluggish," Goetz said. "I told the girls that we needed to put this game behind us and continue on a upward track, and get ready for districts. McDonald County is a good team and showed us that we still have work to do if we want to advance in the playoffs."
The Lady Cubs will be back in action this Thursday as they travel to East Newton.
