Mr. Willis "Ray" Clem, age 75, of Monett, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born on August 25, 1935 in Georgetown, Ky. to George and Alma (Duncan) Clem. He was united in marriage to Bette Shoesmith on July 1, 1972.
Ray served in the United States Navy in two tours of Vietnam, four tours in Antarctica and four years on the White House staff. He was a member of the American Legion Post #313 in Lexington, Kentucky, VFW Post #4207 Monett, Vietnam Veterans and Fleet Reserve Association. Ray moved to Monett from Homestead, Florida in 1973. He later retired from Ryder in Monett as service manager in 1993.
Ray is survived by his wife Bette; three daughters: Carol and husband, Charles Brazeale, of St. Louis, Mo, Lisa Clem and Louise Clem of Christ Church, New Zealand; one son: Mitchell Clem of Christ Church, New Zealand; one sister: Fay Hedger of Lexington, Ky; three grandchildren: Dak Keeling, Olivia Keeling and Hunter Keeling of Joplin, Mo.
Ray was preceded in death by one son, Steven Clem and one sister, Mae Hensley.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Mo. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 2, 2010 in Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Memorial donations can be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, or Hospice Compassus of Monett in care of the funeral home.
