With a 16-1 win over College Heights, the Pierce City Eagles softball team (11-2) won the Spring River Valley Conference regular season championship.
"The girls came out fired up and took care of business," said Pierce City Head Coach Darin Henderson. "We knew if we won this game we would win the conference title.
"Winning the title was one of our goals at the beginning of the year.," Henderson said "We came out and played hard and aggressive and made good things happen."
McKenzie Moreland (4-1) got the win. She pitched four innings, allowed two hits and one earned run and struck out nine.
Sara Stearns went four for four and slugged two doubles, one home run and four RBIs. Faith Strong went three for four at the plate, with a double and two RBIs.
Last Friday, the Lady Eagles defeated Diamond 8-3.
"Diamond was a great win for us," Henderson said. "They had won our district and conference championships for the last two years"
Pierce City's Stearns (7-1) pitched seven innings, allowed seven hits and struck out nine.
Makina Kelly went four for four at the plate with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Stearns went two for three with two runs scored, two RBIs and three stolen bases.
|"We played well in all aspects of the game," Henderson said. "It was important for us to get an early lead and be able to be aggressive on the base paths.||We had a great game offensively. "The girls competed hard and did what it took to get the win."|
The Lady Eagles travel to play the Southwest Lady Trojans on Thursday.
