David Lawrence Roder, age 69, of Verona, passed away at 2:52 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on October 20, 1940 in Verona, Missouri, the son of George C. and Frances R. (Hierholzer) Roder.
Dave lived in Verona his entire life and graduated from Verona High School in 1958. He worked as a field supervisor for Willow Brook Foods, and retired in 2008. Dave was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus. On February 6, 1965 he married Patricia C. Abramovitz in Pulaskifield, Missouri.
Dave was known for his wonderful cooking and always sharing his recipes. He had a very outgoing and comical personality, and never knew a stranger. He will be dearly missed.
Those surviving him include his wife of 45 years, Patricia, of the home; one daughter: Angie Madison and her husband, Terry, of Monett; three grandchildren: Alexandria Keeton, of Springfield; Ariana and Traven Madison, of Monett; two sisters: Myra Merritt, of Bettendorf, Iowa and Joan Squibb, of Springfield; one brother: Donald Roder, of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and son, Gregory C. Roder preceded him in death.
A funeral Mass, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Verona, with burial following at the Calvary Cemetery in Verona. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. with visitation following from 7:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, at the funeral home chapel.
