For 60 of the game's 70 minutes the Monett Cubs played solid soccer Thursday night.
However, it was two, five -minute stretches where the damage was done in a 4-0 loss to Willard.
The Tigers scored goals in the 31st, 33rd, 65th and 70th minutes.
"Tonight we learned first hand the importance of playing hard the entire game," said Cubs Coach Jeremy Wilson. "We let up just for a minute and next thing you know we are down two goals."
The Cubs' struggles are part of the growing process.
"All teams will at some point lose," Wilson added. "How the kids respond is up to them. Good teams learn from their mistakes and go on about their business.
"I thought we were better at making adjustments on the field tonight," Wilson said. "Credit Willard for finding us in a weak spot and taking advantage."
The Cubs will be in action twice this Saturday.
They have a 9 a.m. match against Branson and a 3 p.m. versus Carl Junction.
