Elna Ziegelbein

Elna Anna Fredericka Bredehoft Ziegelbein was born April 4, 1910, at Concordia, Missouri, the daughter of Otto and Alwine (Roepe) Bredehoft. She was baptized April 24, 1910, and confirmed March 25, 1923, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia.

She and Fred Henry Ziegelbein were married July 20, 1930, at Concordia and lived in Springfield, Missouri, until moving to Monett, Missouri, in 1948 with the opening of the Producer's Creamery plant. They were blessed with three children: Betty Howerton, (Mrs. Jack), formerly of Carthage, Missouri; Shirley Schmidt, (Mrs. Karl), of Macon, Georgia; and James, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Betty, and two sisters, Alverna Nierman and Norine Oetting.

She was formerly an elementary school teacher at St. Paul's Lutheran in Concordia. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its women's auxiliary, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, in which she held numerous local, zone and district offices. Elna also served as a volunteer with Loaves and Fishes.

Elna was called to her heavenly home Wednesday, September 15, 2010 while residing at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett. Family members will receive visitors on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett with Pastor Richard Cody officiating. Burial will be at McCormick-St. John's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church Elevator Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
