The Monett seventh and eighth grade football teams notched opening season win over Seneca on Monday night.
Monett prevailed 26-14 in the eighth grade game.
The Cubs' Qunicy Jackson scored on a 52 yard run in the first quarter. Jackson found pay dirt again in the second quarter from 38 yards out. Tyler Ash added the two-point conversion off a Kedric Brink pass.
Jackson would visit the end zone twice more in the second half, scoring on runs of 42 and 33 yards.
"I am excited for our players," said Monett Coach David Grimm. "Getting off to a good start is important. It gives us confidence that we need as we play through the remainder of our schedule."
Ash recovered two fumbles on defense. Jason Kurima and Brink each added an interception.
"We have to continue to work hard," Grimm added. "We had some mental mistakes that need to be ironed out."
The Cubs next game is Thursday at East Newton.
The Monett seventh graders won their opening game of the season, defeating Seneca 20-12 Monday night.
Cameron Witt returned the opening kickoff 70-yards for a touchdown. Witt added another 70-yard kickoff touchdown return in the second quarter.
Nick Ives rounded out the Cubs' scoring with a seven- yard plunge in the fourth.
