The Monett Cubs soccer team fell 4-0 to the Carl Junction Bulldogs Monday night.
"Carl Junction is a good team," Cubs coach Jeremy Wilson said. "We need to use this loss as a learning experience."
The Bulldogs scored goals in the fifth, 51st, 67th and 75th minutes.
The Cubs had several opportunities and close calls but couldn't put the ball in the net.
Monett's Travis Thompson sailed a ball just wide of the near post in the 45th minute. Abraham Meija had two shots that just narrowly missed in the 55th and 58th minute.
"We made some mental mistakes tonight," Wilson said. "Unlike most sports, there are no time outs in soccer. We have only one opportunity (half-time) to fix problems or stop the other team's momentum.
"Even though we lost, this game will make us a better team," Wilson added. "The scoreboard doesn't reflect our effort tonight. I think our boys will respond positively.
"We need to focus on settling the ball and finding the open man," Wilson said. "Part of growing and developing maturity is dealing with setbacks. We need to show more speed and intensity and make other teams work harder."
