This Friday, Sept. 17, prisoners of war and soldiers listed as missing in action will be remembered during a POW/MIA ceremony, which is hosted annually by Tom Wolfe Memorial VFW Post #4207 and its Ladies Auxiliary.
The public event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Tom Wolfe's memorial site at the IOOF Cemetery in Monett.
Danetta Wakefield will lead the ceremony, which will include the singing of the National Anthem by the Purdy High School Choir under the direction of Lauren Lee. Post and Auxiliary officers will present the POW/MIA table, and the Post's Honor Guard will offer a 21-gun salute.
The ceremony will conclude with the release of seven black balloons in honor of the POW/MIAs, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines.
Other veterans groups that have been invited to participate in the ceremony include: Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91; Disabled American Veterans-Barry-Lawrence #64; and Cassville Memorial VFW Post #4205 and its Ladies Auxiliary.
The public is invited to attend Friday's ceremony. Due to limited seating, those planning to attend are asked to bring a lawn chair.
