Despite the weather, the annual Carthage Invitational cross county meet went off without a hitch on Thursday afternoon. A total of 24 schools competed in the races at the Carthage Municipal Golf Course, which with its hills, wooden bridges and soft turf, presents a difficult challenge for competitors.
|Rogers (Ark.) Heritage High School won the boys varsity race, besting the host team Carthage by just two points, 78-80. Fayetteville's Aidan Swain was the individual champion, clocking 17:03 over the 5K course.|
|Monett's Chris Renteria ran an outstanding race, finishing seventh in 17:49. Other runners for the Cubs included: Isaac Weber, 37th; Juan Renteria, 64th; Bill Townsend, 71st; Caleb Blue, 73rd, Jonah Ragsdale, 81st; and Michael Morley, 87th.|
|The Purdy Eagles fielded a complete team at the meet as well. Andrew McCormick led Purdy with his 67th place finish, followed by Corey Kelley, 103rd, Devon Keeler, 105th, Garen Nelson, 108th, Josh Antle, 111th, and Drew Williams, 113th.|
|In the girls race, Maggie Montoya won for the second year in a row, running 19:33. Her Rogers Lady Mounties edged defending champion Kearney by a single point, 65-66, for the team title.|
|Hannah Martin, of Monett, led area girls with her 31st place finish. Madeline Weber, of Monett, was 36th, Audrey Patton, of Purdy, placed 45th, and Jessica Barrientos, of Cassville, was 49th. Nicole Terry, of Purdy, finished in 73rd position.|
