MHS softball wins in extra innings

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

The Monett Lady Cubs beat Lamar 2-1 in eight innings Tuesday night.

The game remained scorless until the eighth when Monett's Shana Paulsen walked to open the inning.

Raigan Ratliff laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Paulsen to second. Then Paulsen advanced to third on a throwing error by the first baseman. Monett ran a squeeze play with Katie Upchurch to score Paulsen. Upchurch was safe at first.

Andrea Soriano singled to send Upchurch to third, and Soriano stole second. Paige Marney got a hit scoring Upchurch to secure the win.

Marney got the win for the Lady Cubs. She pitched eight innings, allowed seven hits, and one earned run and struck out six.

The Lady Cubs will be in action Thursday night as they host Southwest.

Special thanks to Lady Cubs Coach Ty Goetz for the play by play.
