Even though it was a setback Lady Cubs Coach Shyrah Perry was still upbeat.
"Carthage is a good team," Perry said. "They were able to put runs together and found the holes on the floor.
"We have the talent to be competitive," Perry added. "It's just a matter of getting this team to gel. We need to work on keeping rallies going and eliminating the mental errors."
For the Lady Cubs, Maddie Schmidt had one ace and four service points and Jerica Wiseman added another ace.
The Lady Cubs' season continues Thursday at Central High School in Springfield.
