Springfield-Springfield Livestock Marketing Center: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 8/30/2010

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Receipts: 901 Last Week: 571 Last Year: 469

Compared to last Monday, slaughter cows sold 2.00-5.00 lower with the
greatest decline on breaking and boning cows and slaughter bulls sold 2.00-
3.00 lower. Buyers reported that meat prices remain steady and that the
decline in prices is the result of the large supply of cows coming to
market. Several herd reductions and dispersals were included in the offer-
ing because dry hot weather has burned up pastures and without rain forage
will be limited going into fall. There was a moderate supply of bred cows
and heavy supply of cow/calf pairs. Supply was heavy and demand moderate
to light for slaughter classes. Note: No Sale Next Monday “Labor Day”.
