The Pierce City Lady Eagles (2-1) held off the Crane Lady Pirates, 8-6, in Thursday's softball action.
The Lady Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning and added another run in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead. However, the pesky Lady Pirates would not go away.
In the top half of the fifth, Crane scored five runs to tie the game.
"You have to give them (Lady Pirates) credit," Lady Eagles Head Coach Darin Henderson said. "They put the ball in play and came back."
Heading into the home half of the fifth, it would have been easy for the Lady Eagles to hang their heads, but that's not this team's style.
"Our girls play hard all the time," Henderson said. "They settled down and went right back to work."
Kaelyn Osborn led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and promptly stole second for her third stolen base of the game.
Two batters later Osborn crossed the plate to give the Lady Eagles the lead for good.
"Kaelyn's hit was huge," Henderson said "It really gave us back the momentum."
|Osborn finished the game with two hits and two runs scored. Emily Ashley also added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.|
Sarah Stearns (2-0) got the win. Pitching seven innings and striking out seven batters. She allowed seven hits, two earned runs and two walks.
The Lady Eagles are in action next Tuesday at Sarcoxie.
