The Monett Lady Cubs tennis team downed the Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs 6-3 Thursday night. The win moved the Lady Cubs to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in Big 8 Conference play.
"This was a big victory for us," Monett Head Coach Bob Crain said. "Carl Junction is not only a conference team, but a district opponet."
The Lady Cubs' Theresa Mangler's match was very entertaining. Trailing 4-1, she went to her coach for some advice.
"Coach Crain told me to relax and play my game," Mangler said. "That helped a lot, and I started winning."
In singles play, Lady Cubs' Katelyn Sperandio and Nurpa Desai each won 8-2, 8-5.
In doubles competetion, Kerry Tinklepaugh and Siera Edwards won 8-2, Sperandio and Desai won 8-5, and Darian Shields and Kerry Tinklepaugh won 8-5.
"This is a great group of girls," Crain said. "They always give maximun effort."
The Lady Cubs' next match is tonight at Aurora.
