Lady Cubs post tennis win

Friday, August 27, 2010

Winning games is always important, it's just some games carry more importance.

The Monett Lady Cubs tennis team downed the Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs 6-3 Thursday night. The win moved the Lady Cubs to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in Big 8 Conference play.

"This was a big victory for us," Monett Head Coach Bob Crain said. "Carl Junction is not only a conference team, but a district opponet."

The Lady Cubs' Theresa Mangler's match was very entertaining. Trailing 4-1, she went to her coach for some advice.

"Coach Crain told me to relax and play my game," Mangler said. "That helped a lot, and I started winning."

In singles play, Lady Cubs' Katelyn Sperandio and Nurpa Desai each won 8-2, 8-5.

In doubles competetion, Kerry Tinklepaugh and Siera Edwards won 8-2, Sperandio and Desai won 8-5, and Darian Shields and Kerry Tinklepaugh won 8-5.

"This is a great group of girls," Crain said. "They always give maximun effort."

The Lady Cubs' next match is tonight at Aurora.
