The Pierce City Eagles begin the 2010 football campaign on the road Friday night at Sarcoxie.
|The Eagles and Bears are both led by first-year head coaches and each have a very similar and simple game plan.||Run the ball.|
"We want to line up and run right at them," Eagles Head Coach Mac Whitehead said. "We want to force the Bears to commit eight men in the box, then we'll try to throw it over the top. We want to shorten the game and allow our defense a chance to rest."
Sarcoxie's Head Coach Luke Rader echoed many things that Coach Whitehead said.
"We are a run-heavy offense," Rader said "We line up primarily in the double wing offense. We have four different running backs that we'll substitute in an attempt to keep fresh legs on the field."
Sarcoxie is aware of the challenge it will be facing.
"The Eagles are a very talented team, and we cannot take a play off," Rader said "Defensively, we have to have all 11 guys flying to the ball. The key for us will be minimizing the Eagles' big plays, our mental mistakes and penalties."
The plan is much the same for the Eagles.
"In order for us to have any success, we have to be able to run the ball and play sound fundamentally," Whitehead said. "The Bears are a physical team, our defense will have to wrap up and make the tackle on first contact."
Kick-off for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
