Hunter safety course offered

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Counts Archery in Monett will sponsor a Missouri Hunter Education course at the Monett Middle School.

The event is a two day, 14-hour training course to be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 12, from 1 to 6 p.m.

The training will include gun safety, information about firearms, ammunition, wildlife management and conservation, hunter responsibility to the landowner, wildlife and the environment. The course will also teach a special section on outdoor ethics and hunter preparedness.

Those individuals completing the course receive a Missouri Heritage card with a hunter education certification from the Department of Conservation. This certification is mandatory for anyone wanting to purchase a hunting permit.

Certification is limited to students 11 years and older. A birth certificate is required for students under 16. Pre-registration is also required and is limited to the first 60 applicants.

Students must bring a pencil, ink pen, highlighter, and Social Security number to class.

For additional information about the upcoming Hunter Education course, contact Larry Sunby any time after 6 p.m. at 417-354-4006.
