This Friday night marks the beginning of the 2010 Missouri high school football season.
The Monett Cubs will make the trip to Anderson to face the Mustangs of McDonald County. The first game of the season is always important as teams try to establish their identities.
"We want to be a running team Friday," Monett Head Coach Chad Depée said. "We plan to line up and run right at the Mustangs. McDonald County is a big and physical team.
"In order to be succesful we have to control the line of scrimmage," Depée said. "We hope to use our physical play to wear down the Mustangs, shorten the game and take the pressure off our defense.
"I believe this game will come down to who plays mistake-free football," Depée said.
|The Mustangs are also gearing up for the game.|
"Monett is a quick and physical team" Mustang Head Coach Chris Gwartney said. "We have a young team, and it's critical to be fundamentaly sound."
The Mustangs motto on offense: keep it simple.
"We run the majority of our plays out of the I formation," Gwartney said. "In order to be successful we must win the battle up front, create running lanes and move the chains. We do that, and we will have a good chance to win."
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. All Cubs fans are encourage to attend and cheer on their hometown team.
