The Monett Fire Explorers spent Tuesday afternoon practicing a drill called throwing ladders.
"The students who enroll in this course are preparing to become a volunteer or regular firefighter," Post Advisor Shane Anderson said.
"This training class allows the student to travel with the fire department on emergency calls," Anderson said. "They are not allowed in the danger zone while on the calls," Anderson said. "But they are allowed to assist with the distribution of fire fighting equipment, such as the ladders and hoses."
The class is taught using the Missouri Department of Fire Safety standards.
"The course culminates in a final in which participants extinguish a car, grass and small structural fire." Anderson said.
