Cheryl Ann Maples, age 61, of Springfield, was called home on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Cox Medical Center-South. She was born on Sept. 10, 1948, in Tulsa, Okla. to James and Lois (Lanning) McCullough.
She was a member of the James River Assembly of God. Cheryl graduated from Missouri State University in 1975 with a bachelor of fine arts degree, and received her master of fine arts degree from the University of North Texas. She was an assistant professor at Evangel University for 18 years and also taught as an Adjunct faculty at Missouri State and Drury University. Cheryl enjoyed reading and gardening, but her passion was art.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James C. and Lois P. McCullough and one brother: Robert McCullough.
She is survived by her husband, Stan Maples, of Springfield and one son: Alex Maples, of the home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at James River Assembly of God with Pastor Tim Keene officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheryl Maples Scholarship Fund in care of Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield.
