For the second year, the 100 Mile Yard Sale will be coming through Monett on Saturday. The coordinated effort between 13 communities will provide shopping opportunities at several Lawrence County communities plus Monett in Barry County.
"We've been getting calls from people wanting to know where they can sell and others wanting to buy," said Suzy McElmurry, executive director with the Monett Chamber of Commerce. "Last year most of our calls were sellers."
McElmurry said her office had given out around 100 bright yellow signs so far to participants. Sales will be along the official route on Highway 37/Central Avenue to Broadway then east to the Centennial Overpass. The route will continue south of Kyler to Highway 60 and then proceed east.
Several participants, including the Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity affiliate, will set up at the First United Methodist Church parking lot. In addition to residents along the route and in adjacent parking lots, downtown merchants will be having a sidewalk sale, McElmurry said.
The official route will begin in Ash Grove and head west on Highway 160 to Greenfield then south on Highway 39. Yard sale sales will be set up in several locations on Highway 39 in Miller. The route in Mt. Vernon will head east on Highway 174 then south through town on Main and Market streets to the Business 44 loop going west.
Coming south from Interstate 44, shoppers will follow Highway 97 into Pierce City. City Clerk Julie Johnson said sellers will gather along the highway as it comes through town on Elm Street and line up along Commercial Street across the length of town.
From Pierce City the route will proceed east into Monett then head east from Monett to Aurora. Sellers will take positions on S. Elliott Avenue/Highway 39, then east to Church Street back to Highway 60. Sellers in Marionville may set up on Highway 60 before the route heads south on Highway 265.
Final stops on Highways 265/413 will be on the route through Crane, Galena, Reeds Spring and ending in Branson West.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has agreed to allow parking along the yard sale route for Saturday only. No yard sale permits will be needed for sellers on the official route.
Signs and additional information about the 100-mile yard sale are available by contacting the Monett chamber office at 235-7919. A map is posted on the chamber's website at www. monett-mo.com.
The Monett Times has also printed a map of the sale route. That map is available at the newspaper office.
