The Pierce City Eagles hosted the area football jamboree Friday night.
Eagles' running back Cody Cox only needed a step to electrify the crowd. Cox took the pitch from quarterback Cedric O'Hara and scampered 40 yards to pay-dirt against Ava.
"Not many people know that last year he was a state qualifier in the 100-yard dash," Head Coach Mac Whitehead said. "Two steps and he is running at full speed"
While Cox's run was definitely a highlight reel play, it was the Eagle defense that was the star.
"Our defense was good tonight," Whitehead said. "We flew to the ball, got after their quarterbacks and played as a solid unit."
Solid unit indeed, the starting defense did not yield a single point.
The Eagles believe they've answered the questions about their starting roster.
"We have our starters set now," Whitehead said. "More importantly, we finished the jamboree without an injury."
The Eagles will travel to Sarcoxice to take on the Bears on Friday, marking the first game of the 2010 season.
