Joplin Regional Stockyards: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 8/18/10

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Receipts: 1182 Last Week: 803 Last Year: 950

Compared to last Wednesday, slaughter cows and slaughter bulls sold
1.00-2.00 higher. Packer buyers indicated that meat prices remain stable
but due to less cows being available live prices were stronger. Moderation
of temperatures created an environment more conducive to the movement of
cattle reflected in larger receipts including several dispersals. The
dispersals provided a larger selection of bred cows and cow/calf pairs
than has been available for several weeks. Supply was heavy and demand
very good for slaughter classes.
