Mrs. Lera Elizabeth (Stribbling) Howerton, 97, of Monett, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010 at Benchmark Healthcare of Monett. She was born on April 3, 1913 in Pierce City to James William and Naomi (Moore) Stribbling.
She was united in marriage on September 17, 1932 in Joplin to Wilbur Howerton. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2009.
Mrs. Howerton retired as a cook in the Monett Schools and attended the First United Methodist Church of Monett.
Lera is survived by two sons: Bob Howerton and wife, JoAnn and Gary Howerton and wife, Sherry, all of Springfield, MO: three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Howerton was preceded in death by her parents and husband, along with four brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 with services to begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, MO with Rev Charlene Dart officiating. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Monett, MO.
