Cleatus Marian Stewart, age 61, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born on June 7, 1949, in Casa Grande, Arizona, the son of Marion Houston and Ernestine (Harris) Stewart.

Cleatus was a 1968 graduate of Pierce City High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked as a laborer for Mid-America Dairymen for many years and was of the Baptist faith. On November 27, 1970 he married Norma Roach at Chesapeake.

Those surviving him include; his wife, Norma of Mt. Vernon; three children: Christi (Mark) Austin, of Mt. Vernon; Tyler Stewart, of Springfield; and Julie Goist, of Ozark; one sister: Cindy Bottomley; and two grandchildren: Blake Austin and Jacie Goist.

His parents; three sisters: Shirley Smith, Virginia Surber and Sandra Phillips; and one brother: Julius Stewart preceded him in death.

A funeral service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Chesapeake Baptist Church with burial at the Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Campground Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
