Speedway results announced

Thursday, August 5, 2010

The Monett Speedway was busy on Sunday with a full complement of races.

Nine racers competed in the Rookie division feature, requiring two preliminary heats. Lenny Coats commanded the field by winning both his heat and the feature. Clayton Powell bettered his third place preliminary feature to take second in the feature, dropping Jesse James to third after a second place heat. Frank James took fourth in both the preliminary and the feature. John Beard settled for fifth after winning his heat.

The preliminary race in the Bomber division eliminated one contestant, leaving a six-man dash for the feature.

Rusty Forrest rallied from his second place preliminary race to win the feature. Garrett Essary was right behind Forrest in both races. John Coats, who won the heat, had to settle for third. Willie Oxendine advanced to fourth in the feature after a sixth place heat finish, while Dale Senters dropped from fourth to fifth.

Twelve racers vied for the checkered flag in the Modifieds division. Johnny Bone Jr. owned the night, capturing first in both a preliminary and the feature race. Terry Beckham II was right behind Bone in both races. Brent Manning, taking second in his heat, ended up in third. Finishing fourth and fifth were Brett Homan and Jackie Dalton, both in lower places than in the preliminaries.

Thirteen races assembled for the B-Modifieds feature race. Don Luna won both his heat and the feature. Eric Tenderholt, the other preliminary winner, took second. JC Morton, Bobby Maggard Jr. and Brad Moad ended up in third, fourth and fifth, each a notch down from their earlier runs.

The Pro-4 race had eight participants in the feature. Darren Widener sailed to wins in both the preliminary and the feature races, followed by Theresa Widener in both. Ken Jones climbed from seventh place in the heat to third in the feature. Cameron Smith and Don Lacey both dropped a slot to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

The night closed with the Late Models division, featuring 17 racers. Preliminary races hardly forecast results in the feature race.

Justin Wells moved from second to win the feature. Shane Essary climbed from fourth to take second in the feature. Rex Merritt fell from second to third in the feature. Leslie Essary won a heat only to settle for fourth in the feature. Only Chris Morelock raced consistently, taking fifth in both the heat and the feature.

The track will be open for the same six races next Sunday. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and the races begin at 7:30 p.m.
