Leo Bennett, age 89, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Purdy, passed away at 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2010 at the Veterans Home in Mt Vernon, MO. He was born on June 4, 1921 in Purdy, MO to Loyd 'Pete' and Effie (Henderson) Bennett.
He was united in marriage to Lela Laney on June 23, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Ark. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1995. He then married Anna Hall on Jan. 22, 2000 in Springfield, MO. She passed away on Feb. 8, 2002.
Mr. Bennett served in World War II. He attended Long View Church, Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and Gunter Methodist Church. He retired from Tyson in 1987 and also farmed.
Leo is survived by one sister: Ruby Wilks, of Purdy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives and also one son: Mark Bennett on Dec. 31, 1976.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, MO with Rev. Jerry Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Purdy Cemetery in Purdy, MO.
