Firefighters respond to wide range of calls

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Monett Rural Fire Association firefighters have responded to a wide range of calls during the second quarter of 2010.

In June, firefighters responded to five vehicle crashs and one car fire. Four assorted calls sent firemen to alarms and miscellaneous situations.

Assistant Chief Phil Ogle said firemen concentrated on training during June. Six training sessions were held, including classes for First Responders, which allowed the cadets to finish on their basic firefighter classes.

In May, firefighters answered 13 calls. Two involved structure fires. One was at a home on Farm Road 2030 between Farm Roads 1090 and 1100. The fire was traced to an electrical short near a fuse box. City and Freistatt firemen were called to assist on the two-and-a-half-hour battle. Ogle said the home was repairable but not immediately suitable for habitation. The other structure fire was at a garage.

There were also two car fires in May, one mutual aid, one wreck and six miscellaneous calls. Firefighters also checked a carbon monoxide alarm.

A training session was held on May 20 at the Southwest Area Career Center in Monett. Officials from the Missouri Department of Transportation provided information on managing traffic during an accident response.

In April, firefighters responded for three vehicle crashes and had four miscellaneous calls, including several spotting for severe storms.
