Aurora teen killed in crash near Sheldon

Thursday, July 22, 2010

An Aurora teenager is dead following an overnight crash on U.S. Highway 71 five miles south of Sheldon.

The wreck occurred at 4:32 p.m. yesterday. Shelby L. Estep, 17, was driving north in a 2008 HHR and attempted to pass a 2005 Peterbilt tractor trailer, driven by Matthew S. Bishop, 49, of El Dorado Springs. The Estep vehicle struck the left rear dual tire of the semi at a high rate of speed then overturned several times. The vehicle came to a stop in the median. The driver was ejected. The semi came to a complete stop on the right shoulder of the highway.

The body was taken to Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar. This is 50th fatality accident for Troop D so far this year.

A Monett man was seriously injured in an early morning crash July 21.

That single-vehicle wreck occurred when David Holland, 30, was traveling in a white pickup truck on Highway 37 (Central) and Sycamore St. Holland struck a fire hydrant and the truck overturned, coming to a rest on its top in the ditch.

Holland was life-flighted to St. John's Hospital in Joplin.

Monett Police Department investigators are still investigating the incident.
