Monday, July 19, 2010

Amber Cox, a 1992 graduate of Monett High School, has been promoted to chief operating officer of the Phoenix Mercury, the WNBA women's basketball team based in Phoenix, Ariz.

"Amber's been deeply involved in every aspect of the Mercury's operation, making her a natural choice for her new role," said Phoenix Suns President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Welts.

Cox has been with the organization for six seasons, most recently serving as senior director of marketing and promotions. In that role, Cox was instrumental in driving ticket and sponsorship revenue by developing and executing advertising, promotions and media plans. Additionally, she oversees the team's public and community relations.

In addition to working with the Phoenix Mercury, Cox also led marketing efforts for the Phoenix RoadRunners, the Valley's former minor league hockey team, for three seasons.

Prior to joining the Mercury, Cox served as assistant diretor of athletics in charge of media and development at Columbia College in Columbia. She is a graduate of William Woods University where she earned a bachelor's degree in communications/journalism and a master's degree in business administration.

Cox is the daughter of Vikki Gripka, of Joplin, and David Cox, of Cassville, and the granddaughter of Dorothea Cox, of Cassville, and Frances Tucker, of Monett.
