Joyce Parrigon

Joyce Elaine Parrigon, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Cox South in Springfield after a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 4, 1932 in Verona, MO to Fern and Wendell Williams.

She graduated from Verona High School in 1949. She attended SMSU and in 1949 Joyce met Leo Parrigon. They were united in marriage on Oct. 7, 1950. They were married 59 years at the time of her death. He survives of the home in Pierce City. They were blessed with 11 children.

Joyce was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She devoted her life to her husband, her children, making sure they received a Catholic education in Pierce City and Joplin and being a homemaker.

Joyce retired after 23 years as a cafeteria worker at St. Mary's Catholic School. Working at school allowed Joyce the opportunity to see her grandchildren daily.

Joyce enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, puzzles and playing Scrabble. She also enjoyed spending time visiting with her family and friends. Her jelly making was enjoyed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Mark; and two grandchildren, Brian Parrigon and Kristi Hedrick. Also preceding her in death were her brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed and Joan Parrigon and Alvin and Wilma Ceselski.

She is survived by her husband, Leo; two brothers: Rex and Anita Williams and Darrell and Joyce Williams, of Verona, MO; and two sisters: Marjorie and John Thomas, of Monett, and Geneva and George Geil, of Harlingen, Texas. Joyce is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Mary Catherine Miller and James and Caroline Parrigon, of Pierce City.

Also surviving are seven sons: Larry and Patty Parrigon, Dale and Bonnie Parrigon, Neil and Bobbi Parrigon, Vincent Parrigon, Wendell and Sherryl Parrigon, Kevin and Samatha Parrigon, of Pierce City and Tom Parrigon, of Monett; three daughters: Maria and Mike Logan, of Republic, Charlotte and Doug Sloan, of Pierce City, and Melissa and Randy Ballay, of Monett. Joyce is also survived by her grandchildren: Andy and Darlene Parrigon, Carrie and Andy Hogenmiller, Lee Parrigon, Jennifer and Lonnie Pease, Russell Hedrick, Jill and Nate Schneider, Bret Parrigon, Chelsea, Kacie, Noah and Cole Parrigon, Ebony Parrigon, Megan and Lee Jones, Michael Sloan, Laney Parrigon, Riley, Travis, Aniesa and Mollie Parrigon, Monica, Jacqueline and Karsyn Ballay, Kalem and Garret Parrigon. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Brittany and Brandon Weston, Clay Parrigon, Anna Hogenmiller, Chloe Pease, Emily Hedrick, Leo Schneider, Gavin Rist, Lincoln and Layla Jones.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 6 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, July 12, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with graveside services to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Wessell Funeral Home, in Pierce City. Donations can be made to St. Mary's Catholic School in Pierce City.
