Area stock car racers celebrated July 4 by putting their racing skills on the line at Monett Speedway on Sunday.
In the bomber race, John Coats captured both the preliminary heat and the feature race. Finishing out the top five in order in the feature were Les Essary, Willie Oxendine, Craig Casteel and Shawn Price.
The B-Modifieds brought out a big field. Don Luna won the preliminary heat then captured the feature race. Eric Tenderholt equalled his heat performance to take second in both the preliminary and feature outings. Billy Dalton did the same in finishing third in his heat and in the feature. Finishing out the top five in the feature race were Cookie Blevins and Levi Phillips.
In the A-Modifieds race, Terry Beckham had a hammer lock on first place, capturing both the preliminary heat and the feature race. Shawn Nations blasted up from seventh place in the heat to take second in the feature. Brian Brown, Jeff Roth and Chase Jones filled out the top five in the feature.
The late models race had enough entries to justify two preliminary heats. Ken Essary bettered his second place heat finish to win the feature race. Shane Essary was right behind in second place, improving on his fifth place finish in his preliminary race. Dustin Mooneyham took third after winning his preliminary race. Darrell Mooneyham and Larry Jones rounded out the top five.
The Show-Me Late Models race is scheduled for next Sunday, July 11. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and races begin at 7:30 p.m.
